Conclusion after JEC Composites Show 2011 in Paris

Many new ideas that seemed unimaginable a few years ago, have been implemented and presented at the JEC Composites Exhibition 2011 in Paris. Not only carbon and glass fibers but also the basalt fibers and basalt products have aroused major interest among the visitors. Especially components and parts from basalt fibers for automotive industry have gained at popularity, due to good properties and price ratio compared to carbon fibers.  Many of test projects and test results with a use of basalt fibers were positively analyzed what promises to setting new trends on the market in the coming years.

high-capacity thread materials

The basalt, the basic material of the basalt fiber comes directly from the inside of the earth: thin-liquid magma poor in silicic acid resigns in the earth's surface and cools off relatively fast to basalt lava. Again huge heat is necessary for the next subsequent treatment: The fiber itself originates from liquid basalt glazes with about 1400°. In contrast to the carbon fiber the basalt fiber is not elongate, but is amorphous - like the fiberglass-. Also in qualities both materials are comparable.
